CONVOCATION

FRIDAY, MAY 2, 2008 AT 11:30 AM, IN THE FINE ARTS AUDITORUM.All graduating students in the College of Mines & Earth Sciences will have a degree conferred during convocation.

A reception/luncheon will follow Convocation (outside) directly west of the Fine Arts Auditorium. Please see the office staff of your department for tickets to the reception/luncheon.


GRADUATES

All graduating candidates must assemble in a line on the west side of the Fine Arts Auditorium no later than 10:45 am on Friday, May 2, in full cap and gown. Graduates will enter the Fine Arts Auditorium and be directed by ushers and staff where to sit in the reserved section.

Graduates will be handed a card containing their name and other information. During the awarding of degrees, the graduate will hand the card to the department chair who will introduce the graduate to the audience as he/she crosses the stage to receive a diploma cover.

Doctoral and Master candidates should carry their hood draped over their left arm so they are able to be hooded after they are introduced.


CAP AND GOWN/HONOR CORDS

Student graduates can pay for and pick up graduation regalia during the University Bookstore's Grad Fair, April 2-4, 2008. All of the ordering of announcements or caps and gowns much be done through the University Campus Bookstore .

Candidates graduating with honors need to contact their respective honor society representatives to purchase honor cords.


GUESTS

Family and friends are invited to attend the College of Mines and Earth Sciences Convocation. Tickets are not required to attend Convocation and any interested attendees are welcome. Please arrive and be seated by 11:00 am.


UNIVERSITY-WIDE COMMENCEMENT

The University of Utah General Commencement will be held on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. All candidates for graduation should arrive in cap and gown by 8:00 a.m. in the parking lot south of Milton Bennion Hall. President Michael Young will confer all College degrees en masse (except the Schools of Law and Medicine). This year's keynote speaker will be Nobel Prize recipient Mario Capecci.
